First Look Summer 2018: PURIFY
PURIFY, one of the four FIRST LOOK vignettes on display during Las Vegas Market, July 29-Aug. 2, honors wellness and consumer choice — perhaps even compulsion — to live with, to wear and to be nourished by products that are mindfully designed and manufactured.
At the same time, PURIFY acknowledges the role technology plays in our quests and pursuits for balance, strength and good health. After all, our watch monitors our vitals; our mattress is programmed to monitor our sleep habits; and our mobile apps notify us when to meditate. So, PURIFY isn’t about unplugging — because, we can’t really. It’s about achieving calm alongside connectivity, and the idea is conveyed in this vignette with patterns that reference our digital lives.
For example, Tempaper’s Connect removable and re-positionable wall covering, part of the Bobby Berk Collection, sets the tone. Meanwhile, wireless charging end tables from ZUO that replenish our mobile devices reinforce the message.
Another driver for wellness is exterior decorating and the healthful benefits of spending more and meaningful time outdoors. When you consider the stats — some estimates suggest harmful chemicals and other irritants make indoor air quality up to 10 times worse than outdoor air quality — it’s no wonder we’re starting to see design that complements both indoor and exterior environments with convincing ease. New Pacific Direct’s Shiloh chair illustrates this all-weather mindset.
Concern for the environment informs this season’s PURITY vignette, and a product such as Paddywax’s Parks Collection aligns with this consumer-focused purchase motivator. The candle line comprises five fragrances inspired by national parks in the United States. It’s the brand’s first wood wick collection; its matte, terra cotta hues and textured finishes are noteworthy; and for each Parks candle sold, the company donates $1 to the National Parks Foundation.
Lastly, PURIFY anticipates desire for calm, especially for harried professionals, parents and … well … anyone experiencing stress. Kobe Match Co.’s Hibi strike-on-box incense matches — a careful mixture of paper fiber, incense and charcoal — create an instant-aromatherapy “session” that lasts about 10 minutes.
