Stephanie Holdaway lives in the heart of Utah minutes away from Gatehouse no.1 Furniture & Design, a 10,000 square foot store and design studio where she is owner and lead designer. Stephanie and her husband/business partner, Doug are always down for a party, whether it be hosting seasonal design workshops or cheering on their three busy children on the ski slopes or dance stage. She believes that good design starts and ends with the final details through furniture and accessories, allowing you to truly love how you live.

West Coast Style is… “Relaxed, approachable, easy living.”

Favorite Timeless Trend

New Traditional, blending a lot of clean modern lines of furniture with traditional patterns, colors and textures in accessories such as heirloom rugs, French motif vases and art, and classic plaids, florals, and velvets in pillows. It makes for a fun juxtaposition and a fresh take on traditional.  Love mixing in the glam of iconic Art Deco inspired pieces as well.

Best Thing About the Las Vegas Market Experience

The Las Vegas Market experience is unique because it is close to home for us, which cuts back the cost and time of additional travel to further markets, The close proximity of the showrooms allows you to see and buy more in less time, and taking in the great restaurants and shows after hours makes it a fun trip. I also enjoy the market events and special receptions provided, again making it more fun to shop and get inspired for what is up & coming in design.

Best Ever Find at Market

I love the extensive and large showrooms in Las Vegas for art and rugs.  I always discover new pieces and collections at this show!

How Important is it to See Items in Person?

I find it extremely important to be able to see the scale, quality and true color/finish of pieces in person at markets before I bring them to my showroom. I have made big mistakes ordering from catalogs or online without seeing the items first hand, so attending market is imperative to the success of our buying. I attend a minimum of five markets per year and rarely order anything sight unseen, so it’s also important to me that the vendors have not only new items in their showrooms but also as many other of their products, especially their best selling pieces.

Market Shopping Tips for First-Timers

Prepare & Prioritize:

Do your homework prior to coming to the show.  We have so much available to us to view and educate ourselves on companies prior to arriving, so make a list with showroom numbers and map out priorities of things you don’t want to miss. It’s easy to get distracted, but you can always walk the floors and look for new, additional places once you have hit all of your priority destinations.

Ask the Right Questions:

Clarify ship dates and availability of new pieces so you know if some things you see are available for immediate projects, or if they are going to be six or more months out. New introductions in furniture or rugs are often not available immediately. Also find out where things ship from and how to maximize shipping costs with volume buys from your manufacturers, and try to qualify for market specials.
