Ginny’s West Coast Style?

Ginny Macdonald

“Being from England, I try to infuse my heritage into my own personal spaces but combine it with other styles so it’s a kind of hodge-podge but done so that it feels cohesive and considered. I tend to err on the side of classic and traditional, but living on the West Coast definitely allows me to bring in more casual, comfortable pieces.”

“There are lots of different forms of West Coast style, whether it be the more colourful layered mid-century boho or earthy neutral ‘California casual.’ To me, West Coast style is a mixture of all different styles layered together in a relaxed manner, using a lot of collected pieces and natural materials in bright and airy spaces.”

Ginny’s Top 4 Picks for “West Coast Style”

  • Rattan or woven accessories
  • Plants...lots of plants (although I cannot for the life of me keep any alive!)
  • Seascape painting or photograph
  • Danish midcentury-style furniture

Why Does She Love Shopping Las Vegas Market?

“Not only is it fun to immerse yourself amidst all the craziness of the shoppers, it’s also a huge deal to see things in person. When suggesting furniture and accessories to clients it’s always good to feel confident about the pieces you are proposing, and seeing them in person makes all the difference.”

Trends She’s Eyeing at Market?

“Having only been to the market once before I’m really excited to head to the Pavilions, which I didn’t get to last time. A lot of makers are at the forefront of trends so it’s great to snag up one-of-a-kind pieces before they blow up into the mass market.”

Top 4 Materials For 2018:

"1) Woods, 2) Linens, 3) Ceramics, and 4) 'I’m such a lover of natural materials, so I’m always on the lookout for those.'"

Top 4 Colors For 2018:

“Even though it feels more fall/winter, I’m still loving rusty orange tones mixed with dirty mustard and burgundy. Only as accent colours, and done in very small doses so that it doesn’t feel too overpowering.”

Favorite Places to Stay and Dine in Las Vegas?

“The Vdara is one of my faves because it’s a suite hotel, so you get a big plushy room with a sitting area. It also doesn’t have a casino, so it’s a great place to come back and relax after a full day of shopping. I’m a big fan of the sushi at Zuma at the Cosmopolitan Hotel as well as STK, they do a great fillet steak.”

Market Tips for First-Timers?

“Keep it comfy! You’re literally on your feet all day so comfy shoes are a must. Take a fold-up tote bag for any small accessories and brochures. And then book into a spa for a well deserved wind down – the Bellagio is a particular favourite of mine.”
