1. Wear comfortable clothing, layer, and bring a backpack, or a bag that has room for snacks and water, and a place to put your extra layering clothing
2. I always spend time before I leave looking at home magazines that I find inspiring, from new trends, to vintage. We carry everything in our store, new pieces, home décor, furniture, but also amazing vintage and one of a kind items. Spending time looking at magazines that inspire me, help me to think outside the box, but also give me a feel for what my vision is for the next steps of my stores. I take these magazines with me on the flight as I usually get right off the plane and head for the showrooms, and like to be very clear on my vision.
3. I like to review the exhibitor list ahead of time. I make note of those vendors I have visited in the past, and make appointments whenever possible. Then I search the different exhibitors and the product categories to see what product is new, and what vendors may be new, or are new to my list of vendors to meet with. I make a list of showrooms to visit, or walk by, in between appts. On my second day of the show, I usually write orders, and try to stop in to see new vendors.
