Merchandise For Small Space Design Can Equal Big Profits

Christopher Grubb
Sunday, 3-4pm
Building C, Seminar Room C174 (Surya Seminar Room)
Sponsored by Surya

As baby boomers retire and cities become more crowded with the younger age set and an influx of one- and two-person households, demand for smaller homes and apartments has grown to an all-time high. So how does this trend toward smaller living spaces affect the merchandising needs of retailers and the work of designers, who cater to this market? Beverly Hills Interior Designer Christopher Grubb, whose family was in retail for over a century, discusses market trends in furnishings and décor techniques that maximize the look and feel of smaller living spaces. Grubb will showcase projects that include smaller scale furnishings, products to accessorize with, unique ideas for display, lighting and finishes that make a small space look large. See what end users are demanding in product so you can become a trend leader, as opposed to a follower. The same design ideas can be applied to your retail store or showroom, proving that smaller spaces can have big style. (0.1 CEU)

Leveraging social PR – The New Way to Get Media Attention

Julia Rosien, Restonic
Tuesday, 3:30-4:30pm
Building C, Seminar Room C174 (Surya Seminar Room)

Ten years ago when you had something newsworthy to share, you found a PR agency that harvested product or service reviews from journalists and editors. It was almost always a one-way ticket to media attention, which lead to more sales. Bloggers are the new PR agencies, journalists and editors all rolled into one – and the relationship is a whole lot trickier. Just as there are good journalists and lawyers, there are a few shady ones too – same with bloggers. And it’s not always easy to spot the bad apples. During this seminar, Julia Rosien, Brand Engineer for Restonic Mattress, will share advice on how to find reliable, results-oriented bloggers – and how to create successful relationships with them.
