First Look 2017: Midnight Garden

Enter Midnight Garden, and fall under the spell of the night. Las Vegas Market attendees can experience Midnight Garden (and three additional trend vignettes) this winter in the new FIRST LOOK display unit, a dynamic structure that will be centrally located in the Grand Plaza courtyard.

Hues from Benjamin Moore's 2017 forecast provide a backdrop for this night-like scene; we picked Shadow 2117-30, the paint manufacturer's 2017 Color of the Year. But Ebony King 2132-20, a blue-black hue; Night Shade 2116-10, a reddish black that reads dark brown; Salamander 2050-10, a green-black; and even Gentleman's Gray 2062-20, a classic hue that reads more blue than gray, can be put to service, too.

The Midnight Garden mood isn't macabre; rather, it favors interplay of dark and light. The palette seems to have been sampled from paintings of the Dutch masters; like a masterpiece by Rembrandt van Rijn and Johannes Vermeer, Midnight Garden offers luminescence and sparkle by way of warm metals and candlelight.

“Decadence,” and printed and hand-painted wood panel from RenWil

Wall décor leads in Midnight Garden — works by Phylum Design, Paragon, RenWil and new Las Vegas Market exhibitor Bovi Home will be presented in this vignette. Fabrics done up in Cashew and Cognac colors are ease mates; for urban appeal, upholstery silhouettes reference Mid-Century forms. We tapped TOV Furniture and Four Hands for seating.

Photorealism, digitally printed patterns, laser-cut effects and matte surface treatments are important embellishments. Style-wise, Brutalist-inspired decorative accessories that took hold in 2016 find a home in this moody color story.

See Midnight Garden — plus three additional product vignettes — at Las Vegas Market January 22-26.

FIRST LOOK moves to a central location for Winter 2017; spot the products-packed crowd-pleaser in World Market Center Grand Plaza. Be sure to pick up your copy of the companion FIRST LOOK guide, and plan to attend the FIRST LOOK presentation featuring curator and editor Julie Smith Vincenti.
