Step up to this season's Artist's Hand, one of four FIRST LOOK vignettes housed in a new Grand Plaza courtyard display, and experience the creativity and handiwork of the individual artisan. An antidote to sameness and predictability, furniture, decorative accessories and gifts created by hand in small batches add humanity and intrigue to interiors, and self-expression and inimitable style to our personage.
FIRST LOOK's Artist's Hand display presents an array of such objects — an area rug that's woven by hand in India, an intricate beaded necklace created by an artist in Kenya, a small-batch chemical-free personal care product that nurtures the senses. There's an added homage to handicraft this winter at Las Vegas Market: Check out a pop-up shop called Artisanal LA that will feature products made by independent makers and crafters. Shop this resource in the Pavilions, space P1-5004.
In the Artist's Hand display, creativity and cause often exist in lockstep. Consider Solmate Socks, for instance, which produces all its colorful and quirky socks from recycled cotton yarn, adheres to a zero-waste policy and offers carbon offsets for purchase. Or Skinny & Co., a cruelty-free Leaping Bunny brand that offers food and personal care products made from coconut oil. The Indianapolis-based brand offers a discount program for veterans, too.
FIRST LOOK moves to a central location for Winter 2017; spot the products-packed crowd-pleaser in World Market Center Grand Plaza. Be sure to pick up your copy of the companion FIRST LOOK guide, and plan to attend the FIRST LOOK presentation featuring curator and editor Julie Smith Vincenti.
The CEU-accredited seminar will be held Monday, January 23, at 10 a.m. in Building B, WorldView on Sixteen.
